How ancient knowledge is making modern science sit up and pay attention

On the west of the continent, storytelling passed down for thousands of generations has helped provide a greater understanding of dinosaurs.

In fact, the knowledge of Aboriginal people has helped palaeontologists learn about fossils they never knew existed.

University of Queensland palaeontologist Associate Professor Steve Salisbury says there is much to be learned from Aboriginal knowledge systems, which have often been treated purely as myth.

"I thought I knew everything there was to know about dinosaurs, but I soon realised that wasn't the case, and that palaeontology has been happening here for a very long time."
